Sleep Apnea and Airway Aware Treatment
Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a serious medical condition in which a patient’s breathing stops periodically during sleep. This may happen as many 20-30 times per hour. Patients with sleep apnea suffer from daytime fatigue and are at higher risk of developing other medical conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, and liver disease.
There are several treatment options for patients with sleep apnea including a custom oral device, orthognathic surgery, and CPAP.. Working closely with your medical provider we can determine which treatment option works best for you.
A constricted airway can severely stunt the growth and development of a child. At Joe Orthodontics, we take a 3D cone beam x-ray for each and every patient allowing us to detect a constricted airway early on and intercept it with early treatment that takes advantage of the child’s growth potential to expand the airway. Often this can prevent the development of obstructive sleep apnea later in life and improve the child’s overall health.
